We send out a tremendous amount of emails through the Big Biller software, and that number increases on just about a daily basis.  We’re always striving to add new users to the software, and as you well know, recruiters are using email marketing more and more.  With volume increasing like it has, it only stands to reason that there are more instances of “bounce backs,” which are emails that can’t be delivered because of bad or incorrect addresses.  I’m sure you’ve seen these in your email inbox with a subject line like those that are listed below—or ones that are similar:

  • 550 5.1.1 User unknown
  • 550 No such user – psmtp
  • 550 User account is unavailable
  • 550 Recipient Rejected: No account by that name here

Anyway, I wanted to address this issue in The Pinnacle newsletter.  Specifically, I’d like to talk about some of the things you can do to help ensure that as many of your emails are delivered to their intended recipients as possible.  When it comes to the Big Biller software, one of our goals is to make sure that the software runs as smoothly and as efficiently as possible.  Unfortunately, when mass emails are sent through Big Biller, and a large number of those email addresses are bad, the software keeps trying to send the emails.  That bogs the system down to a certain extent (affecting band width, speed, etc.) so that it’s not running in an optimum fashion.  This then serves as a hindrance to all Big Biller users, a hindrance that we’d like to reduce, if not get rid of all together. We seem to do the same thing every year . . . we forget our own birthday!  Top Echelon Network turned 22 years old earlier this month, and although it’s taken us a couple of weeks to realize it, we’d like to mention this milestone.  As we’ve mentioned before, the first issue of The Pinnacle newsletter was sent to the Membership on March 8, 1988, so that date has traditionally been used to mark the birth of the Network.  (Although at that time, it was referred to as Nationwide Interchange Service, or NIS.)

Sending that first issue out via snail mail was Top Echelon founder Mike Kappel, who although is no longer immersed in the day-to-day activities of the Network, can still sometimes be found at our larger conferences.  Others who still frequent such events are the Charter Members of the Network, those who joined us in 1988 and have been with us the whole way.  A list of those Members is below:

    • Steve Brody of Executive Resource Systems
    • Mike Moertl of M.A. Moertl & Associates, Inc.
    • Mark Suss of Contract Placement Associates
    • Lou Michaels of Lou Michaels Associates, Inc.
    • Carlene White of White/TemTech, LLC

I’d like to personally thank these Preferred Members for their steadfast commitment to the ideas and beliefs of Top Echelon Network, for their dedication to networking and split placements, and for their determination to persevere during the tough times.  And I’d also like to thank every Preferred Member of the Network.  Without you, there would be no us.  That’s something we won’t soon forget.

“It was very interesting to be a part of developing the Nationwide Interchange Service as it was initially called.  The first few conventions were very valuable for me.  During that time the conventions emphasized training & education relative to become a better recruiter.  Those meets were always packed.  I was just getting my recruiting business moving ahead & the network was very helpful.

“It was interesting to see the network grow significantly.  Let’s hope that this history continues.”

“It is hard to believe 15 years have transpired since we stepped out in faith, partnering with (NIS) TE 15 years ago.  It has been a great ride with many split placements, unbelievable training, and friendships along the way.   As I have said many times:  With TE resources. reliable trading partners. hard work and respect, the placements take care of themselves.  Most gratifying over the years has been TE’s technical commitment to continually improve systems and software, making it easier for us all.  Thanks TE for making us all better.  Best wishes for the future.”

This recession is like the visitors that never leave. They keep emptying the pantry and ordering pay-per-view while you sleep. Everyone asks, “What can I do?”

You know exactly what you must do to thrive: MARKET, RECRUIT, Make Placements! You know that when hiring is scarce, or fees are being attacked, you must radically increase the number of clients who know you.

The real rub is that at a time when you must stay in positive and productive contact with two or three times the number of clients, you simply cannot find the time to do it. Read More

So . . . just how can you be successful as a Preferred Member of Top Echelon Network?   What are the keys? How do you do it?   In this new series in The Pinnacle newsletter, we’re going to interview some of the Top Producers in the Network and ask them what they’ve done to achieve success in Top Echelon.

    Al Daum

Al Daum, Alan N. Daum & Associates, Inc.

    Recruiter:  Al Daum

Agency:  Alan N. Daum & Associates, Inc.

    Accomplishments within the Network:

Ranked #27 in the Network in 2009 in terms of the top-producing recruiters.   All of that was the result of split placements Daum made with his Trading Partners.   He is currently ranked #10 in the Network. (To view a complete list of the top-producing recruiters in Top Echelon, please visit the Members’ Area.)

Al’s Keys to Success: Relying on Trading Partners

Daum is a steadfast believer in relying on his Trading Partners in both good times and bad times.   In fact, he indicated that he’s been more dependent on his Partners during this most recent recession.   Unfortunately, there are some recruiters who shy away from making splits during recessionary times because they’re more focused on trying to ensure that they collect a full fee.  They figure that if placements are going to be scarce, they’d better receive a full fee on the ones they do make. Unfortunately, that approach doesn’t always pan out. Read More

Sure, the numbers speak for themselves, but what do the Trading Partners say?  We asked Alan Carty of Automationtechies.com and Rich Connors of Vista Technology to say a few words about Al Daum of Alan N. Daum & Associates, the focus of our “Top Echelon Success Story” in this week’s issue of The Pinnacle.   Below are their comments, in addition to the number of split placements they’ve made with Daum.

    – — –

    Alan CartyAlan Carty

    Automationtechies.com

Number of split placements with Daum: Fourteen (14)

“My first encounter with Al Daum was in May of 2002.  I called Al to introduce myself to him.   Since we both worked in the same space, I thought there might be a good chance we’d make splits if he was open to working with a competitor.   Not only was he open to it, but from the very beginning, Al was always willing to openly share client names, etc., and we began a close relationship that resulted in [14] splits in less than five years.

“Al has also made [eight] splits with others in my office.   Al is a true recruiter.   He maintains long-lasting relationships with both clients and candidates.  Our biggest challenge is finding people who DON’T know Al.”

    – — –

    Rich Connors

    Vista Technology

Number of split placements with Daum: Three (3)

“If you have a need for an Automation Engineer, be sure to include Al Daum in your recruiting strategy.   I am not aware of anyone who knows this niche as well as he does.   His ability to qualify candidates makes him a true recruiting partner!”
